Baltimore artist UllNevaNo spits conscious bars over a soulful, drumless beat on this track entitled “Mgntkfying Glass Perspective” (that is really not easy to type). The single is a preview of Neva’s forthcoming EP “Confidence is Everything”, where he teams up with Nottz Raw artist/producer Illien. The project is set to be released through magnetikmoments.bandcamp.com later this year.
NEW MUSIC [DC LOVE]: Don Juan (@iamdonjuan) - “Juan Mix Vol. 2”
D.C. rapper/songwriter Don Juan comes back with a second installment of his “Juan Mix” mixtape series, taking the hottest industry records and lacing them with his personal touch. The mixtape has limited features but includes verses from fellow artists Issa, Dutch Capitol, and Stak Paypa. Juan is gearing up to release an album with original production this summer.
From the sounds of his verses on this mixtape I can tell Juan has bars, but I moreso look forward to the original album so I can really get a feel for his style. I think his verses sometimes get lost in the the songs when mixed with those of the mainstream artists. Nonetheless, this mixtape is a head banger so go download dat.

NEW MUSIC [ATL LOVE]: @MikeyAristotle - “What Tomorrow May Hold” LP
Rising rapper Mikey Aristotle from Atlanta, GA has introduced his first album to the world “What Tomorrow May Hold”. The album, similar to the cover art, takes you through the dreams and nightmares of a college student just graduating and trying to navigate the world thereafter. I can most certainly relate!

NEW MUSIC: Mike C. (@FlourishMikeC) - “Denim” ( Debut EP)
Up and coming hip hop artist Mike C. just released his first EP on Friday (February 21) and from what I’ve heard so far he sounds like a promising talent. The majority of the EP features only Mike himself with one guest appearance made by Al Rogers on “EyesClosed”, the upbeat record that paints a picture of Mike’s realities. The stream of consciousness Mike delivers in his verses on the EP gives you a genuine personal feel for him as an artist.
The first track “StoneWashed” opens up with the infamous “Kill Bill” whistle which leads into Mike C. spitting his bars over Drelax’s dope beat (Drelax produced the majority of the album). I saw Mike perform at Be In the Loop’s “On Deck Under 30” event this month and although I could tell he had talent, hearing him rap over his performance track at the event didn’t give him as much justice as the delivery I hear from him on this album. He switches up his flow as you jump from song to song, keeping your attention and never leaving you bored which is a good look for a debut EP.
I love when a rapper’s verse is so dense that I have to hang onto every word, and that is exactly what “Smoke” delivers. Mike C goes in on this hardcore beat track with a fast-paced rap style. This energy continues throughout the album with ambient oriented beats supplied by producers Gee Major, Drelax, and Tay Jones. Very well done for a debut release.
